A comprehensive search and recovery effort is presently under way in the Caribbean region for two unlocated sailing vessels transporting relief goods journeying from Mexico to Cuba.

Naval Search and Rescue Missions Deployed

Mexico has deployed naval teams and military search aircraft to search for the missing boats, which were had on board no fewer than nine total crew members, as stated by a military release.

The ships had been scheduled to make landfall in Cuba's capital on Tuesday or Wednesday, but there has been radio silence from them and zero verification of their arrival, authorities reported.

Background of Aid to the Nation

The Caribbean nation has leaned on Mexico's over the past few weeks, as the nation struggles through widespread national electricity failures.

"The crews and captains are experienced sailors, and the two ships are fitted with proper navigational gear and communication devices," an official involved in the effort stated.

The nine crew members are from Poland, France, Cuba and the US. Officials said it has opened communications with rescue coordination centers from each country along with their consular staff.

"The group is working closely with the officials and remain confident in the ability of the crews to reach Havana safely," the statement continued.

Recent Humanitarian Mission

Earlier in the week, the Cuban government publicly celebrated and officially received a different ship that had carried 14 tons of relief supplies to the country.

That boat, nicknamed "a modern Granma" after the boat in which Fidel Castro landed in Cuba to start the Cuban Revolution in the 1950s, brought photovoltaic panels, medicines, formula milk, bicycles and provisions.

Wider International Climate

Volunteers and NGOs have been at the forefront of attempts to ship humanitarian aid to Cuba beginning in January, coinciding with the time a fuel embargo on the island nation began.

International organizations have since warned of "dire" lack of essential goods, with more than fifty thousand surgical procedures postponed in Cuba amid electricity supply constraints.

Foreign policy measures have increased lately, with remarks from several officials underscoring the delicate nature of diplomatic ties.

Responding to previous statements, a prominent official from Cuba declared that "the governance model of Cuba is not subject to discussion."

Indications suggest that early stages of talks were initiated, although their present status remains unclear.

The Mexican navy said it was dedicated to using every available asset at its command to locate the vessels and ensure the well-being of the sailors.

As of now, there has been silence on the disappeared vessels by the Cuban government.
