Among Avatar: The Last Airbender's most beloved installments is honored with its own Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair.
Typically, recap episodes face criticism by fans as an unnecessary time filler, or at best viewed as essential in television during the period of regular broadcasts. That wasn't always the situation, and Avatar: The Last Airbender proved it via "The Ember Island Players," a beloved episode during its concluding run now being receiving an exclusive Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair collection.

The full Secret Lair superdrop for the soon-to-release Avatar: The Last Airbender collection was announced recently. Containing five Secret Lairs, and even though the one called "My Cabbages!" is certainly amusing nod to the series' best background character, the additional releases feel a bit lacking creativity, except for one standout: "The Ember Island Players."
Drawing from the seventeenth episode of the third season of Avatar: The Last Airbender, this collector's drop includes the following cards:
- 1x Phantasmal Image as "Absolutely Accurate Actor"
- 1x Braid of Fire
- 1x Cursed Mirror
- 1x Mask of Memory
- 1x Thespian's Stage
Why this segment is special
Viewers of Avatar fondly remember this installment, which acted as a summary of the hero Aang and his friends' quest prior to the final episode. In contrast to other recap episodes, or compilation episodes, "The Ember Island Players" did not stem from financial limitations or creative challenges. The producers genuinely intended to give fans a moment to recap the overall plot, yet they chose to do it creatively.
During the installment, the main characters observe a theatrical performance based on their adventures on a stage located on Ember Island, named The Boy in the Iceberg. The entire performance is factually incorrect, cheesy, and completely amusing. It works since it plays with the heroes' understanding about themselves, setting them against compared to how society (and especially the Fire Nation) sees them. It contains the right amount of self-awareness, and it ends up possibly the best adaptation of Avatar we have had.
Worth and cost
When it comes to cost-effectiveness, this offers a fantastic Secret Lair because of one major element: Braid of Fire. This card sells between $20 and $40 on online marketplaces currently, while for $29.99 you can acquire the entire Secret Lair, or $39.99 for the foil version.
Magic: The Gathering's Avatar: The Last Airbender collection will be available for pre-release events starting November 14 and releases worldwide come November 21.
