Ex- Physician Accused of Assault Charges Against 38 Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors have stated that a ex- physician now faces charges for performing assaults against 38 individuals who were patients.
The Grave Allegations
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous sexual offences – comprising acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.
A senior prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
The Investigation
The charges follow what investigators called a “complex investigation” into reported assaults at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer is scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.
Breakdown of Charges
Prosecutors outline the 45 charges comprise:
- Fifteen counts of assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
