Jets Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities released surveillance images Monday of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and authorities said it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries were reported.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning in the area between Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was admitted to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, I’ll keep private, but I’m happy at the fact that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with a shoulder issue that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in March and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while working his way back.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in March.
