Swedish Selection Announcement: Isak Named While Viktor Gyokeres Excluded
Viktor Gyokeres joined Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon this summer
Arsenal forward Viktor Gyokeres has been omitted from the new manager's initial Swedish national squad, whereas Reds striker Alexander Isak received selection
Gyokeres is scheduled to undergo further examinations in the coming days following concerns he sustained a thigh issue in the Gunners's Premier League victory against the Clarets on Saturday
The 27-year-old missed the Gunners' European victory against the Czech side on Tuesday
Alexander Isak Returns
Isak, who hasn't featured since 22 October due to a groin injury, was selected for World Cup qualifying games versus the Swiss team (November 15th) plus the Slovenian side (18 November)
Other England-based Call-ups
- Spurs playmaker the young talent, currently rehabilitating from a head injury
- Newcastle wide player the Swedish international
Both athletes feature in the England-based players chosen by ex- multiple English clubs boss the new Swedish coach
The New Manager's Role
The English manager took over the Swedish federation originally on a short-term basis in late October, under four weeks after his departure by the Hammers
Previous coach Jon Dahl Tomasson was fired following Sweden's defeat to Kosovo on 13 October, an outcome that made direct progression in their World Cup group impossible
Current Standing
The Swedish team are currently last place in Group B having just a single point from four matches
Should they don't manage to claim the runner-up spot, there remains a chance they might take part in the World Cup play-offs as a result thanks to their showing in the most recent UEFA competition
