The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series by Critical Role, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching personal histories for characters including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that an element was missing in the music selection.

This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of that title, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will love its presence.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the hype and excitement that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in 2015, and it improved further when co-founder the performer wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Including singing from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening appears as among these.
