The network's Premier New Show of This Year Earns a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often marked by cynicism, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
