The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
