The Renowned Musician Urges Backing to Propel Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Festive Top Spot.
A charity drive is aiming to propel a cultural melody to the top of the UK charts. The campaign seeks to provide aid to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
A Possibility for Unity and an "Surprise Victory"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded after a major charity concert held in late summer. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the performance was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The notable list of performers appearing on Lullaby includes a selection of well-known figures from the scene. All participated in the earlier concert, which managed to collect a significant sum for charitable causes.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of music creators. The track showcases a mix of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the initiative have stated that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These resources will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a spokesperson commented. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the area was described as its profound destruction, with a vast majority of property described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is above all raising awareness for this issue and proving that another narrative exists.”
The song is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a digital service from later in the month.
