This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.

“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
