Around 25,000 homes in southeastern Queensland found themselves lacking electricity on the start of the week after powerful weather events impacted the region, generating wind gusts reaching 109km/h.

Massive Ice Stones and Extensive Impact

Locals observed large ice chunks reaching sizes of seven centimeters in some areas. Meteorological experts announced that various areas across the state had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

Utility workers were attempting to repair energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams activated to address the extensive power failures.

At the same time, around one thousand residents in the southern state also experienced electricity disruptions after Melbourne experienced its wettest day in 18 months.

State Emergency Services responded to 598 calls for help across the area, primarily for building damage but also for fallen timber and inundation.

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along significant areas of eastern Queensland this week as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

The following day was expected to become the wettest day, with ongoing thunderstorm potential expected across different parts of both states.

Health Warning

Medical authorities warned that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.
