Toronto Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Showdown With defending champion Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial World Series after 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing by two runs, Springer smashed a three-run homer in the seventh inning, guiding the sole Canadian team in the majors to a four games to three triumph in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, holders of the defending champions, in the forthcoming World Series.
"It's incredible for this squad, our city, Canada," Springer stated, a key player of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "This is such an amazing experience."
Springer has now hit 23 total post-season home runs, ranking him third all-time behind Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else on planet Earth that I'd choose in that moment except for Springer with his October magic," remarked Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the one club that has never reached in a championship series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it's painful" following his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but applauded their efforts in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we ended up on the wrong side of this game," he remarked.
The Blue Jays claimed the World Series on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will host the Los Angeles in the first game on Friday.
