Torrential Rains Aggravate Situation for Displaced Residents of Gaza, Agencies Warn
Intense rains over the last seven days have compounded the already dire circumstances of the many hundreds of thousands of evacuated residents in the region, according to aid groups.
"Awful" Night Brings Grave Dangers
A spokesman detailed the recent storm as "terrible", with rain so heavy that as much as 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the streets.
"These conditions was truly difficult for the residents. The heavy rains were so intense... And the gales were so strong," noted the representative.
There is extreme worry that children living in tents in damp clothing will fall victim to hypothermia and various sicknesses.
Deaths and Widespread Damage
Medical officials have stated that one baby has succumbed from the cold and a minimum of 11 other people have died in structural failures caused by the harsh conditions.
Other reports put a increased number of casualties. Spokespeople reported that numerous residential buildings had collapsed completely and dozens had sustained partial collapse.
- Roughly 55,000 families harmed by the weather.
- More than 40 official shelters inundated.
- Countless residents forced to relocate again.
Assistance Distribution Deemed Not Enough
Organizations have escalated distribution of shelter, blankets and clothing after the halt in hostilities commenced, but they have said there is still not enough aid getting in.
"Officials are working relentlessly to provide that aid and to distribute it, but the size of the needs is so immense that we still have thousands of individuals and minors who are genuinely struggling nightly," warned one spokesperson.
Long-Term Issues and Truce Terms
The second phase of the ceasefire encompasses arrangements for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the removal of personnel, and other conditions.
Relief organizations have underscored the necessity for "expanded and ongoing humanitarian assistance to meet immediate and ongoing requirements."
The war was sparked by an offensive in the autumn of 2023. Following campaigns have caused a substantial number of lives lost in the territory, according to official data.
